Very few people even know San Antonio is a UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy

It’s been nearly four years since San Antonio received an exceedingly rare designation as a UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy — one of only two such cities in the United States and 36 in the world.

In those four years, the city’s World Heritage Office has overseen efforts to capitalize on the designation, which honors a city’s cultural heritage as it relates to food.

So far, there’s not much to show: a long list of goals, a staff of three people and a minuscule budget of about $75,000.
