Birmingham Japanese restaurant brand Takumi to make London debut

Located close to the junction of Old Compton Street and Charing Cross Road, Takumi will take over the site formerly occupied by Melanie Italian Restaurant and is set to launch in September with 50 covers.

Takumi’s first site, located in Birmingham’s Chinese Quarter, serves a ‘diverse array’ of Japanese cuisine.

Menu items at the Soho restaurant will include familiar sushi such as tuna, salmon, and eel sashimi; nigiri; maki rolls; and donburi.

It will also also feature a selection of carpaccio dishes, plus grilled and skewered meats and vegetables.

The drinks menu, meanwhile, will include a range of Japanese beers, teas, a variety of sakes, and cocktails.

“This is an historic site in the midst of one of London’s most exciting areas, and we are delighted to be bringing the Takumi dining experience to the capital for the first time,” says Alex Xu, co-owner of Takumi.

“Japan has such a rich and diverse culinary heritage, and alongside the well-known sushi and grill dishes, we will be introducing some unfamiliar but authentic tastes and delicacies to London, which we know will work brilliantly in the city’s dining culture.”

Shelley Sandzer acted for the landlord, CDG Leisure acted for Takumi.
