St Kevin’s Choir

t Kevin’s Choir in Glendalough needs you.

Now is the time! If you have a song in your heart, that is all you need. There are no auditions, and singers, musicians, young and old all are welcome. You will learn the songs during a short practice one evening a week, from September to May. New members – come and enjoy and continue the ancient tradition of spiritual worship in Glendalough. Grow

Weekly meetings of Grow’s free, community-based peer support groups are set to resume from July 20 at the Wicklow Parish Centre, De La Salle Pastoral Centre, St Patrick’s Road, Wicklow.

Grow is a mental healty charity that aims to support anyone who is experiencing a mental health issue. More info at grow.ie.

Badminton

Badminton classes in the Brockagh Resource Centre, Laragh are finished now for the Summer except for Adult Badminton which will continue for June.

All classes on Monday and Thursday nights will be back in September.

Yoga Tree Ireland

Yoga Tree will be finishing up soon for the Summer with classes starting again Thursday. September 15.

Do you have aches and pains or stiffness in your body?

Hildi can help ease your body and mind with expertly taught yoga. She’s highly qualified with decades of experience.

Join her on Thursdays at 7.30 p.m. for yoga (all abilities welcome) and Fridays at 10 a.m. for remedial/restorative yoga.

Classes are also offered at Glenealy hall and online. Many options to choose from.

Roundwood Festival

The Roundwood Festival 2022 will take place on July 31 in Roundwood Village from 2 p.m. until late.

The day will start with the usual fun and games in a new location – the field opposite Roundwood NS on the Lough Dan Road.

Now is the time to start working on your scarecrows for the scarecrow competition. If you need straw for your masterpiece please call John on 086 8225705. You can then erect your scarecrow inside the fence on Roundwood Street Festival Day. Judging takes place on the day and the winners will be announced that evening. Two Prizes for the Best Scarecrow and the Most Topical!

The Festival raffle tickets will be hitting the streets soon, so please support it if you see them.

Many thanks to the wonderful local businesses who generously support the festival by making financial donations or by sponsoring raffle prizes.

The Festival is run by volunteers so if you are in a position to help out in distributing raffle tickets, volunteering on the day of the Festival or on the following tidy up day or have any bright ideas to include into the Festival events please email [email protected].

Blessing of the Graves

The Blessing of the Graves in Roundwood Cemetery will take place on Sunday, July 17 at 11.30 a.m.

There will be no mass.

Those attending are asked not to park any vehicles on the Oldtown Road between Vartry House and the Cemetery. All those who are able to park in the village and walk up are asked to do so, in order to allow room for the less able-bodied Parishioners to be driven to the Cemetery.

The blessing of the graves for Rathdrum cemetery is on Sunday, July 10, at 3 p.m.

Walking group in the Brockagh

On Monday mornings weekly at 10 a.m. join the Laragh walking group at the Brockagh Resource Centre for a walk around the Glendalough area for approximately one hour.

No need to book, just show up on the day.

Brockagh Digital Hub

Brockagh Resource Centre was delighted to launch the new Brockagh Digital Hub recently.

This exciting new venture has been funded by the Department of Rural and Community Development and is available now for use as a shared workspace with high-speed broadband connection, lockable workstations, meeting room, and a pod with great views of Glendalough from the workspace.

Open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. with wheelchair access.

Adult art classes

Adult art classes have been postponed until further notice at Brockagh Resource Centre.

Market and car boot sale

The Brockagh Market and Car Boot sale is once a month on the second Sunday (except February/March) and is open to the public from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Tea, coffee and food snacks are available. Indoor and outdoor stalls with a variety of items for sale with plenty of bargains from gifts, clothes, plants, books, toys, aloe vera products, artwork, tools, household items etc.

Free parking and customer toilet facilities. The barrier will be locked from 6 p.m. Saturday evening until 8 a.m. Sunday morning.

A mobile library comes to Laragh every second Thursday from 12.15 p.m. to 12.50 p.m.

Ashford Historical Society

Following the successful publication of its latest journal, Ashford Historical Society is looking forward to taking on new projects on the historical events in Ashford, Glenealy and surrounding areas.

Anyone interested in our local history is very welcome along and to participate in their activities and presentations from visiting historians.

Set dancing

Roundwood set dancing has resumed on Thursday nights in the parish hall, starting at 9 p.m.

The organisers look forward to welcoming back their usual dancers and also any newcomers if they would like to join are always welcome. Admission: €5.

St Joseph’s NS enrolment

Enrolment for September 2022 is now taking place at St Joseph’s NS in Glenealy.

Forms can be downloaded from the school website www.stjosephsglenealy.com.

Library activities

Every Saturday Wicklow Library hosts story-time for children up to six years of age, while every Thursday Comhrá agus Ceol takes place at 11.15 a.m., which involves conversation and song for children aged up to four years.

St Laurence O’Toole NS

St Laurence O’Toole National School in Roundwood will be celebrating its centenary in 2023.

A preliminary meeting has been held between the Roundwood Historical Society and interested staff members in the school to begin to make plans for how to mark the centenary.

They will be gathering ideas, memorabilia, stories, pictures and documents and will be reaching out to members of the community who may be interested in helping out.

They are also seeking anyone who may have artefacts, stories or some just enthusiasm for the event to please make contact with the school.

Excess garden produce

Anyone with an extra supply of garden food produce you can drop it outside the main entrance of the Brockagh Resource Centre in the crate provided for the community to share.

You can also find cooking apples left outside the front door in a container for anyone to have this week.
